Final statement of FMP.

For my final outcome I illustrated 10 garment ideas, front, side and back. I then selected two of the garment ideas that I had illustrated and I made them. I then produced several concept boards in order to inspire me for the photoshoot. I then done my models hair and makeup and found a suitable location to do the shoot. I have progressed a lot throughout the FMP as I have worked independently and I have learnt new skills; such as textiles design ideas and photography skills. My final outcome doesn’t differ from my original idea that I had, as I contrasted both the Brothers Grimm and 18th Century fashion.
My blog shows how much I have learnt throughout the course, I blogged every day about the progress or little progress I was making. Throughout the FMP there were some tricky parts as I wasn’t too confident with what I was doing. But with help from my tutors and peers I was able to get back on my own two feet. My FMP plan has helped throughout the project, however I wasn’t in time with what I set out to be, I spent a lot of time researching than I had originally planned, but this was ok because I was able to produce a lot of relevant research which relates to my project. My sketchbook shows how my learning has been effected, I became more loose and I started experimenting more (which I had never done before) I began to work outside my sketchbook as well which helped me gain more inspiration for design ideas. These methods have helped with the development of my work as without them I wouldn’t have a starting point. They all have equally amount of work and express my ups and downs through the project.
I met many of my targets such as visiting several exhibitions related to the Brothers Grimm and 18th Century fashion, this was met as I visited the V&A, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Bath, Saatchi Gallery, and many more exhibitions. Another target that I met was to extract certain shapes from my images and produce stand work, this was met as I enjoy working on the stand as I feel this is where my strengths lay. Finally I also met the criteria as to what I set my self to produce; I created illustrations and a final garment as well as a photoshoot. I am pleased that I have met my targets as well as exceeding them by adding new targets such as illustrating and location visiting doing boards and concepts to help me inspire for my final shoot.
Reflecting of my final major project I feel that the development that I have done throughout has really benefitted to my final outcome. I enjoyed doing collages, which I then extracted the shapes to make stand work. I also worked on the stand by choosing a particular shape from my book and then made 3d stand work. This helped towards the final outcome as it offered my unusual silhouette shapes. The stand work in which I used material as well helped towards as I was able to see how the material draped and tugged. The development of fabric sampling really benefitted as I was able to choose which sample worked best and if any would actually be practical. The development stage of the project has contributed greatly to the final outcome.
During the FMP I attended the group tutorials where I was able to gather a lot of feedback from my peers and my tutor. I was told that I needed to work faster at times as I was struggling some times because I wasn’t sure where to get started. However, when I visited a lot of exhibitions I was able to get into the gist of things. My tutor was pleased that I visited a lot of exhibitions and my peers said how my exhibitions and the work in my sketchbook flowed. I was pleased with this feedback. When I started developing some people got confused as to what certain things are representing; i.e what they are there for. So I was given advice to add little thumbnails to where is necessary. So I took this feedback on board and agreed with what was said. The feedback was very useful as I was able to progress and gather ideas from my tutor and peers. I was struggling with the textile samples as I had never done this before and I wanted to try something new; my teachers suggested a lot of brilliant ideas with layering and mixing mix media. I took this on board and made my designs more 3d and with mix media.
To conclude the things that I have been able to take away from this FMP is that I need to improve time management, however I feel that it has got better throughout the weeks as I started to meet deadlines better (my own deadlines) this is useful skill in the work industry as well as when I further my studies in a degree level as I will be faced with time management a lot of the time. I have also developed my skills on photoshop and illustrator as I done a lot of editing and a lot of garment drawings which I scanned in to make them seem more professional. This is also useful in the work industry as well as university as the upcoming market is become very digital, and it is relevant to have hand drawn skills as well as technology skills. I want to build on my time management as well as my technology skills as I feel these are very vital both in work and in university. Next year I hope to study fashion design degree level.

FMP W7 (Final) WEEK

This week i decided to make a puffy top which is inspired from the 18th century garments, and a tight skirt which is inspired from the tight bodice in the 18th century. I then embellished a crop top to compliment another garment, however this wasn't as strong.
I then planned out my photoshoot and i decided to shoot in an abandoned house, this was really fun as I've never been there before. My model worked well and she knew what she was doing, However if i had more time i would have done more photos so that it would have been easier to select the final images. My peers liked my photoshoot but i wasn't too keen on the quality as there wasn't any of the cameras that i wanted. With more time and more scheduling i would've been able to produce something better, however for 7 weeks i am pleased with what i produced.

FMP W6 (Design Development) DAY 5

Today i now done the dress development, i chose three of the rough designs and developed them 12 times, i then selected three final ones to add to the collection. I then drew out all the flats for my collection, front and back. This was quite easy as i had done the illustrations for them already.
I then illustrated all all my final collection doing front side and back, this was really fun to do as i used photoshop, illustrator and i done some by hand. My peers really liked the progress of my work and said that they have seen that i've picked up.

FMP W6 (Design Development) DAY 4

Today i done trousers i developed three trouser ideas and came up with 12 i then chose the final  three for the final collection. My peers were complimentary on my designs however they said some of them were too eccentric for them to wear.

Moving forward i will do the side and back view and add fabric swatches.

FMP W6 (Design development) DAY 3

Today i developed three skirt ideas, this was okay but a bit tedious as i felt there wasn't a lot that i could do with skirts however i tried to develop them in many different ways. Then coming to a final three.

Moving on from this i will add side and back views as well as fabric swatches

FMP W6 (Design Development) DAY 2

Today i developed three jacket ideas from my rough designs, this was interesting and i found this easy as i had shapes from stand work which helped me create different designs. I then chose final 3 jackets for the illustration and my peers said that they would wear some of my designs.

Moving forward i will need to add the side and back view on selected garments and fabric swatches.

FMP W6 (Design development) DAY 1

Today i done all the top developments, i chose particular rough designs and then developed them. This was really fun to do and my peers liked my illustration. I kept the same colour palette throughout. I then chose 6 final tops for the final illustrations.

What i'm going to do next is add all my fabric swatches next to the garments and add some side and back view on a the final selected garments.

FMP W5 (Sampling) DAY 5

Today was interesting because i used paint on material, this didn't really work well so i developed it with stitches and thread, they went ok but if i was to do it again and i had more time i would draw them out more neatly and to look more like flowers. After the paint i then used ink, this was more fun because the ink ran a lot and it made it look still affective. I then developed this idea by adding the artificial flowers and stitching on it. Finally i photocopied the flowers and came up with a pattern. I then put ink into acetate and trapped the flowers inside stitching in some places. This was quite affective and my peers thought it was good. If i was to do this again i would addd different colour petals and different  stitch colours.

FMP W5 (Sampling) DAY 4

Today i decided to group all the flowers on one material, i really liked this one and it worked well. I decided to do another idea by using petals and stitching onto the fabric. If i had more time i would do a bit more development to these sample ideas, however i feel that with the time that i have left this is ok…

I then moved on to burning the flowers, this was quite fun as I loved seeing how the flowers turned over and were turing dark on the edges. I then wrapped it into clear film and burned it through the flower, this took a while to get to the flower, however it worked well.

FMP W5 (Sampling) DAY 3

Today i got decayed flowers and worked with the different shapes, this was quite interesting as i liked how the petals worked better on the smaller one. I then worked with the artificial flower to see what it would look like on material, however it looked a bit dull and boring. I then moved onto using real flowers stitching on material, i liked this one and i thought it looked quite affective. After this one i decided to go back to the artificial flower and do some embroidery with it. However, i still preferred the original flower idea, but i just wanted to try something new.
I then moved on to stitching individual flowers onto the material, this was quite challenging as the flowers kept on braking. It took a lot of time so in the future i will be doing a different idea. I then developed these ideas and instead of stitching i decided it would be better to use a glue gun as this was more time efficient. I enjoyed doing these ones especially the one where i pulled the petals off and made my own style of a flower, this was quite interesting watching the flower decay. After doing this i then stitched into it which looked quite interesting. If i was to do this again i would maybe use different flowers and petals and different stitch colours.
