Final statement of FMP.

For my final outcome I illustrated 10 garment ideas, front, side and back. I then selected two of the garment ideas that I had illustrated and I made them. I then produced several concept boards in order to inspire me for the photoshoot. I then done my models hair and makeup and found a suitable location to do the shoot. I have progressed a lot throughout the FMP as I have worked independently and I have learnt new skills; such as textiles design ideas and photography skills. My final outcome doesn’t differ from my original idea that I had, as I contrasted both the Brothers Grimm and 18^th Century fashion.

My blog shows how much I have learnt throughout the course, I blogged every day about the progress or little progress I was making. Throughout the FMP there were some tricky parts as I wasn’t too confident with what I was doing. But with help from my tutors and peers I was able to get back on my own two feet. My FMP plan has helped throughout the project, however I wasn’t in time with what I set out to be, I spent a lot of time researching than I had originally planned, but this was ok because I was able to produce a lot of relevant research which relates to my project. My sketchbook shows how my learning has been effected, I became more loose and I started experimenting more (which I had never done before) I began to work outside my sketchbook as well which helped me gain more inspiration for design ideas. These methods have helped with the development of my work as without them I wouldn’t have a starting point. They all have equally amount of work and express my ups and downs through the project.

I met many of my targets such as visiting several exhibitions related to the Brothers Grimm and 18^th Century fashion, this was met as I visited the V&A, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Bath, Saatchi Gallery, and many more exhibitions. Another target that I met was to extract certain shapes from my images and produce stand work, this was met as I enjoy working on the stand as I feel this is where my strengths lay. Finally I also met the criteria as to what I set my self to produce; I created illustrations and a final garment as well as a photoshoot. I am pleased that I have met my targets as well as exceeding them by adding new targets such as illustrating and location visiting doing boards and concepts to help me inspire for my final shoot.

Reflecting of my final major project I feel that the development that I have done throughout has really benefitted to my final outcome. I enjoyed doing collages, which I then extracted the shapes to make stand work. I also worked on the stand by choosing a particular shape from my book and then made 3d stand work. This helped towards the final outcome as it offered my unusual silhouette shapes. The stand work in which I used material as well helped towards as I was able to see how the material draped and tugged. The development of fabric sampling really benefitted as I was able to choose which sample worked best and if any would actually be practical. The development stage of the project has contributed greatly to the final outcome.

During the FMP I attended the group tutorials where I was able to gather a lot of feedback from my peers and my tutor. I was told that I needed to work faster at times as I was struggling some times because I wasn’t sure where to get started. However, when I visited a lot of exhibitions I was able to get into the gist of things. My tutor was pleased that I visited a lot of exhibitions and my peers said how my exhibitions and the work in my sketchbook flowed. I was pleased with this feedback. When I started developing some people got confused as to what certain things are representing; i.e what they are there for. So I was given advice to add little thumbnails to where is necessary. So I took this feedback on board and agreed with what was said. The feedback was very useful as I was able to progress and gather ideas from my tutor and peers. I was struggling with the textile samples as I had never done this before and I wanted to try something new; my teachers suggested a lot of brilliant ideas with layering and mixing mix media. I took this on board and made my designs more 3d and with mix media.

To conclude the things that I have been able to take away from this FMP is that I need to improve time management, however I feel that it has got better throughout the weeks as I started to meet deadlines better (my own deadlines) this is useful skill in the work industry as well as when I further my studies in a degree level as I will be faced with time management a lot of the time. I have also developed my skills on photoshop and illustrator as I done a lot of editing and a lot of garment drawings which I scanned in to make them seem more professional. This is also useful in the work industry as well as university as the upcoming market is become very digital, and it is relevant to have hand drawn skills as well as technology skills. I want to build on my time management as well as my technology skills as I feel these are very vital both in work and in university. Next year I hope to study fashion design degree level.
