FMP W2 (Research) DAY 4

After looking and gathering all the images from Bath I decided that it would be great to go back and develop the 'Brothers Grimm' concept. A great way i thought for this was to look at surrealist art, as it distorts images/ your imagination. I found some great surrealist photographers/ artists whilst i visited my local library.
I looked at Christopher Ryan Mckenney's work first of all and i was inspired alot by the location and how he actually uses himself in the images. I felt that this work was very sucessful and it helped me a great deal to capture in my mind the 'grim/ grotesque' aspect of the fairytales. This was interesting for me as Christopher Ryan Mckenney took something beautiful (nature) and turned the image into something unpleasant. This was something that inspired me and i'm sure will help me when i choose my location and theme for my photoshoot.

After looking at Christopher Ryan Mckenney, I looked at David Ho a surrealist artist. I looked into detail his images and selected a fiew which i found inspiring and useful to my topic. One of his images was like a maze, and it got me thinking that my theme could be captured in the aspect, as i'm having something colourful and bright (18th century fashion) clashing with something dark and mysterious (Brothers Grimm fairytales) Looking at the surrealist art was very useful research and it helped me create the tone and the dark aspect of the brothers grimm fairytales.

The only thing that I would say wasn't too good was that I was a little stuck how to develop the pages... However i didnt feel like they needed an explanation as they were research which would come useful when doing the preparation for the photoshoot etc. If i had more time on my hands i originally wanted to do my own version of Christopher Ryan Mckenney's shoot, however this wasnt possible as the timing wasnt on my hands!
Next week I hope to go back and look through previous exhibitions that I have visited as i know that i have seen a few which are relevant!
My peers and tutor gave me positive feedback however i was told that i need to work a lot faster and fill my pages more. I understand this and take it only as positive criticism and i will make this better as i go along.
