FMP W1 (Research) DAY 5

Today was a successful day, I feel that I have produced a great amount of work. I was in the right mind set today after seeing how much work some of my peers at uni have done!
I now moved on from the David Hockney exhibition and looked at the V&A of the 18th century fashion. I really liked the dresses they wore as they were very elaborate and a great contrast to the grimm side of the Brothers grimm stories.
Today i decided to do a little embroidery sample of the floral prints that are seen on all of the garments worn in the 18th century. I felt this challenging as i've never done embroidery before. I feel that it was successful and sweet (as it's only small) I then done some very quick 1 minute sketches of the garments worn in the 18th century. I was mainly interested in the Mantuas the ladies wore as i found that the large points of the garment were on the hips and the waist was made so small. It always makes me wonder how they fit through doors etc!
I had a little problem when using the ink to draw a close up of one of the dresses today... But the disaster turned into a good disaster as i managed to solve this problem by getting some acetate and drawing the outline again!
I chose some fabric swatches that I had which matched one of the garments that were shown in the V&A. I feel that today I have produced quite a bit of work and I feel that i am slowly making progress. This work is very important to the later stage in the project and it will all be incorporated as the main theme is brothers grimm and 18th century fashion. I chose these because they are complete opposites, and this is why i will develop and research further.
Over the weekend i'm going to watch some 18th century themed films to gather a different perspective and hopefully get inspired!
