FMP - W1 (Research) DAY 2

What a tiring day today was!
Travelling all the way from Essex to the V&A and then to Dulwich was a nightmare under the rain!

Today I visited the two museums and I gathered a lot of first hand research by seeing the garments (V&A) and the etchings of David Hockneys exhibition.

Although today was very tiring I gathered a lot of images which will help me to start my concept board and my beginning of my sketch book.
Own photo taken at Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Own photo taken at the V&A.

I learnt quite a bit of information from the V& A such as the dresses in the 18th Century (the wide ones seen in the picture) were called 'Mantua's and a lady would wear this to express her wealth by the bigger the dress. I found this very interesting as wealth was very important and still is in todays society. I thought that I could develop this idea of the wealth and research the negatives/ downfalls which will relate to the brothers Grimm stories (as they are all grimm!!!)

At the David Hockney's exhibition I wasn't so pleased with what i saw, but maybe that was because it was the end of the day and i was wet and cold! There were only about 6 sketches of his work from the brothers Grimm and although they were good sketches i wanted to see more! However, all research is good research! I took several images and visited the shop where i was able to view some books of his work which gave me some more images to look into.

Overall today was successful as i was able to get alot of first hand research from the galleries. In the future i would plan my day better before i left of to the galleries as I wasn't too sure where I was going half the time... Also if i revisited maybe the 18th century room that they have in the V&A would be open (as it was being re decorated!)
Following these visits I am going to gather the images that I have taken today and start to play about with them on photoshop and start to develop the research in my sketchbook.
I was given useful advise from my piers when i showed them the images from the V&A and the Dulwich picture gallery, they were pleased that I had already set off on exhibitions as some of my piers were still uncertain where they were heading.
