We were set up in random groups by our teachers and i was placed in a group of 3 textile students, one womenswear student, one other menswear designer and two promotion students. Together we introduced ourselves and become more confident with our peers. we decided that in order to make the project successful was to gather images that we thought were appropriate to our likes and the put them forward on a board.
We then developed our quote that we were given which was ;
"There are massive gaps in this essay. It is broken and re- wound. Not always knowing yet searching...
Respond. Exchange. Converse.
Be a traveller in this novel, even if only for a while."
We didn't want to take the quote literally so we exhausted each word and came up with the concept of 'broken ice.' From this we developed the colour scheme of icy blues and dark, deeper blues.
We then went our own way and furthered our research and started doing what our task was. I first set off doing several rough design ideas in order to get all my designs on paper and then to ask my peers which ones that thought were best in order for me to develop. I then developed my garments with no colour as i wanted to collaborate with the textile students to make the collection more together. Having had several meetings with my peers and also working with the womenswear designer we came up with a collection that would mirror each others. I looked at the patterns in which the textiles students had produced and played about with them on photoshop to work with them on my garments. I produced 10 trouser flats, 10 jacket flats and 10 top flats for our final collection.
From this project I faced a lot of challenging aspects. I had to ensure that i met deadlines in order to work successfully with the team, in doing so i made sure that i kept a written schedule so i knew what i had to produce and when i had to produce it by. We had several meetings in order to discuss our differences and any problems that we were facing. Unfortunately one of our team mates wasn't present a lot of the time so I had to take the role into my hands and produce a substantial amount of work for our team. This project has taught me to work well in a team and when needed to step up and act as a team leader. I feel that this project has developed my skills as a designer as i have covered both menswear and womenswear. I feel we overcome all the obstacle's faced within working in groups and we came up with a successful end.
