Finally we have arrived at our last week, throughout the weeks I have learnt many skills and I have looked into many aspects of the fashion industry. From having an insight I have now chosen my pathway- fashion design. Following on from the 'Self Identity' task which was set on week 1, I chose to develop my family history as my mother is Italian and I had previously looked at my Dads English side.
I then looked into depth with the religion that is within my family and her childhood, and found out some information that my mums auntie used to be a nun. I developed these ideas and created several boards which could inspire me; focusing on nuns. From all this background information I was able to gather information that would help me to come to my final piece. I drew several rough ideas in order to know what i wanted to do and realised it would be good to focus on the old habits in which the olden nuns wore. I felt these created a haunting feel and this is what I wanted to achieve.
I thought a lot about the materials that I wanted my garment to be used from and realised that lace would represent Italian culture and the veil in which is used in weddings or funerals in religion ceremonies. As I wanted my garment to be haunting yet controversial I chose black lace to create this approach. The habit I made was from paper but bearing in mind if I had more time I would have used vilene on material to make it stiff and more effective. I spent a lot of time thinking about who I would like my model to be as I wanted a sincere and sticking pose from my model. I was glad that the model I had chose worked well with my shoot and the location in which I chose helped the final piece. I was very happy with my final piece as it was very successful. My peers were very complimentary about my final piece and I feel that all the knowledge that I have gathered from the weeks has helped me come to a very successful final piece.
These past eight weeks have taught me many skills such as time management, team working and planning which will help me in the future when in work or education. From this project I have realised that I would work better in a bigger portfolio as towards the end when I got into my work I was quite limited with space.
All this has helped me to come to a good end and it will help me for the future.
