Photoshop/ Pattern design.

Photoshop week- I was looking forward to working with Photoshop as I had previously worked with Photoshop when doing my Media A Level. We were taught how to repeat patterns for our final outcome at the end of the week. We started off by learning how to use the offset tool, the importance of layers, and tools such as the magnetic and lasso tool to select certain sections in a picture. This was however skills that I already knew how to do, but it was good to re-cap on the knowledge and I also found it informative on the different tools especially the eraser background tool which I didn't know how to use before. Our first task that we was set was to create a repeated pattern using flowers from the internet, I off-setted them and rotated them, also adding backgrounds which I had previously created when learning how to use the tools.
After gathering all this knowledge we then had to draw a lot of sketches relating to our family history so I looked at the war by gathering images from my family and the war, from this research I then developed it further and drew several poppies and carnations to represent the war and my family history. From these sketches I then chose my final 4/5 best images and scanned them into Photoshop, adding colour and changing the offset and adding repeats. After doing 4 different pattern designs I drew 5 different garment outfits to place my patterns on. From learning the skills earlier in the week I was able to edit out the sections where I would like the pattern with the magnetic tool and then added the patterns which I wanted.
At first I found this week quite tedious as I already knew what I had to do but I have enjoyed learning how to add patterns onto garments which I will need to know how to do when I am in the fashion industry. I had positive feedback from my peers about my final piece and they liked that I used the war in a not so negative light. This week has taught me how to structure my time more efficiently and to learn skills such as Photoshop for the future.
