This week was accessories week which meant we had to create a piece
which could be placed onto a garment or with a garment. Following on the theme
of identity and self I chose an object which had importance to me- (my mother’s
engagement ring) I then started designing shapes and patterns looking into
texture and colour of the ring to form several styles which I could incorporate
onto my accessory.
I done a few sketches of accessory ideas to play about with designs to see where I would like to be heading (whether it was hats, necklaces, rings, bracelets, body pieces etc)
I was pleased with my designs that I had created
and I felt that I had gone in depth with the picture enough so that I could
move onto the next task. I then started drawing line/ circular shapes of my
ring to finalise a shape in which I would make. I really liked the use of
repeating circles and I thought this would be effective if I made shapes out of
this.
I then started making my shapes out of card repeating the circular pattern several times, overlapping each one. I took a few pictures of my shape in different angles to see what negative shapes i could see from the side/ back and front.
After doing this i then traced over the pictures focusing on certain areas of the shapes- (mainly the negatives) untill i had several ideas in which i could put forward onto making an accessory. I manipulated the shapes in order to create several different accessory pieces.
After this task I then focused on design 1 and 3 and drew up to 20 design developments of body pieces.
When designing my ideas I repeated several shapes in order to get the look i wanted, i felt that my designs were successful because I kept the same colour scheme throughout the project (orange and black.) I then chose my final design which was the repeated circle around the neck.
I further developed this design to come to a concluded design which I would then make.
I decided that I would make shoulder pads and a golden neck piece for my final project. I was pleased with the outcome of my accessory as it was practical as well as effective. my fellow peers were very complementary with my design, however in the future i would look into using metal to create a more fashionable accessory piece for catwalk. throughout the tasks that was set i found it challenging deciding what materials i would use to create my accessory, due to the lack of materials I had I decided that i would use paper and gold spray paint in order to give the desired look. In the future i would save money and look into places where they could make my design out of metal for a more sustainable outcome. my planning for the task this week was stronger than the week before as i took on board what i had to do- ie; i wasn't distracted easily and i made sure whatever i had in my mind i put down on paper to get a successful outcome. in the future this will help me in work as i wont be wasting time and i will be getting the job done- meeting all the deadlines.
The people in my groups work were all well created +Rachael Akande work was very effective how she used 3D design in her collage pictures, I thought it was creative how she used backgrounds to highlight the images that she created. The way that she used black and white images and then colour for the accessories really made it stand out. The only advise I would give would be not to worry too much on how it looks, and just get the ideas down on paper and then she wouldn't waste too much time, however the ideas that she had were all brilliant.
+Katrina Alleyne final design was well made and unique, i liked how she used her identity and self (likes and dislikes) onto her final idea with the beer lids, it was very creative and looked unique. Her work was layed out well and i liked the way she worked with tracing paper in order to highlight her accessory. In the future i would advise that she should try using paint or different mediums in order to see what other techniques she could use.
Your accessory designs were very sophisticated, you developed/produced many ideas conceptually in varieties for many parts of the body, you also maintained your color scheme which corresponded well with the geometric shapes used. I would however agree with you in doing your designs justice by using better materials for the final outcome. Overall your work is impressive!
